Dear  Sir,

Re: New Straits Times-Newspaper In Education Workshop

       For primary school  teachers

Greetings  to  you.

Following  our  tele-conversation  recently, I am  pleased  to  inform  you  that  JELTA  would  like

to  conduct  a  half-day (5 hours) workshop  for  English  language  teachers  in  Chinese  primary  schools.

The  workshop  will  be  conducted  by  NST-NIE specialist  Vincent D’Silva  who  has  been  the  facilitator  for  a  number  of  NST-NIE  workshops.

Hence, I  hope  your  goodself  could  enlist some  50  English  language  teachers  currently  teaching  in  these  schools  to  attend  the  workshop. The  venue and date can be at the teachers convenience.

Teachers  attending  the  workshop  will  be:

-          Exposed to  various  methodology  in  using  the  newspaper  as  a  teaching  resource.

-          Able  to  make  English  come  alive  in  the  language  classroom.

-          Able  to teach English the “newspaper  way”.

-          Able  to create  a  potentially  more  interesting  and  stimulating  lesson  for  the  students.

-          Learn how  to  use  the  newspaper  as  a  teaching  resource.

-          Able  to  acquaint themselves with the physical features of the NST.

-          Able to discover the treasures of language embedded in  the NST.

-          Able to see that all activities fall within the scope of KBSR Eng. Lang. syllabus.

-          To  show teachers on venturing into  the  newspaper  world.

Hence, I  would  be  grateful  if  you  could  arrange  a  workshop for  these  teachers  to  participate and  see  for  themselves the many possible ways of putting the newspaper to judicious use in the ESL classroom.

Looking  forward  to  hearing  from  you.

Warm  Regards,

Dear  Sir,

Re: Request for monthly contribution towards the English Tuition classes  for  poor  students  of  Form  4 & 5

       At  the  Sultan  Ismail  Library

I  am  currently  conducting  two  English  Language  classes  for  Forms  4 (35 students) and  5 (25 students)  at  the  Sultan  Ismail  Library  in  JB  town.

Students  attending  these  classes  come  from  the  very  low  income  group. Hence, I  do  not  charge  them  for  the  class. Most  of  them  are  from  very  poor  families  and  can’t  afford  tuition. The  Library  is  providing  the  venue  for  the  classes.

This  is  my  part  of  contribution  to  help  needy  families. A  little  on  my  part  can help  these  students  persevere  in  their  education.

Hence, I  would  be  very  grateful  if  your  organization  could  at  least  help  provide  some  financial  contribution  to  defray   the  monthly  photocopying  expenses  which  is  considerably  high.

As  you  know  these  are  examination  classes, a  large  amount  of  notes, lessons  and  exercises  need  to  be  photocopied  on  a  regular  basis.

With  this  I  look  forward  for  a  favourable  reply  from  your  end.

Thank  you.

Yours  sincerely,
